D.J. Sokol Arena, Omaha, NE (Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021) - Jim Flanery and the Jays look to bounce back leading up to March Madness after loss to No. 1 UConn.

Against the NCAA powerhouse of UConn, Creighton’s Temi Carda led her team with 24 points. However, the scoreboard read 81-49 in favor of the Huskies at the final buzzer.

Emma Ronsiek scored the first points of the game, giving the Jays a head start with hopes to keep a lead over the Husky offense. Nika Muhl scored a season high of 15 points for the Huskies in the first six minutes of the contest.

Chloe Dworak responded to the Husky defense by putting up a deep triple with two minutes left in the first quarter. She was a walk-on freshman and received a scholarship this year.

With the Husky defense pressing outside of the paint and forcing the Jays to take deep shots, Creighton had a difficult time getting shots in and grabbing offensive boards.

Carda secured her second triple of the game with the assist from Ronsiek. Mykel Parham also had a steal to close the half at 42-21 UConn.

The Huskies had 25 rebounds and led in field goal percentage with Carda getting the start for the Jays in the third quarter and making a jumper with the assist from Dworak.

Rebounds were the focus for the Jays in the second half. Carly Bachelor and Parham played a good second half getting defensive and offensive rebounds for some quick points.

In the fourth quarter, the Huskies focused on getting the ball to Muhl, who closed the game with 19 points. The Jays stayed focused on defensive rebounds and not giving the Huskies opportunities for fast breaks.

Parham closed the game off well by blocking a jumper and getting the defensive rebound to Carda to make a jumper with two minutes left of the game. The Jays didn’t quit and took any opportunity they had to make shots.

With one minute left, Payton Brotzki got her first triple to close the game at 81-49 as No. 1 UConn took down the Jays.
