(Omaha, Neb.) – Creighton women’s basketball won their 5th consecutive game all-time against Nebraska, and broke the Huskers’ three-game winning streak on the season.

The Jays outlasted the Huskers with a 78-62 final score. Creighton’s Tatum Rembao and Temi Carda led the team with 18 points each.

This matchup was set to be a relatively close game with the Jays averaging 62.2 points per game, versus the Husker’s 69.6 points per game. Although, the Huskers did head into the game leading in rebounds per game with 39.8 compared to the Jays’ to 35.

Going into the tilt, the Jays knew that driving the paint against 6’5” Husker center Kate Cain would be a challenge. Cain is the greatest shot-blocker in Nebraska history, holding the school record with 280 career blocks in 2019.

However, the Jays took advantage of their three-point game instead and knocked down 10 shots from deep, contributing to their 42-21 halftime lead.

Coming out of the half, the Huskers had a slow offensive start and lost Ruby Porter amidst the game as she went down with an injury. By the middle of the third quarter, Huskers’ Sam Haiby stepped up, and scored 13 of her 18 points from lay-ups and free throws.

The Huskers continued to make fast-break points, breaking up Creighton’s defense and making Coach Jim Flanery call the first time out of the game with two minutes left in the third quarter.

Creighton led 63-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Nebraska’s Isabelle Bourne and Creighton’s Tatum Rembao fouled out late in the game.

Despite spurts of scoring from the Huskers, the Jays still continued their strong offensive scoring attack and the Huskers could not respond. Creighton pulled away to win 78-62 and snapped the Huskers’ three-game winning streak.

The Jays face No.3 Connecticut next on Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Storrs, CT.
